Bob Kelley Swims with Sharks!

Kelley/Uustal’s very own Attorney Bob Kelley was recently featured in a Law 360 “Secret Lives ofLawyers” article about his love for diving and exploring the ocean around Florida and around the world.

Passionate about both law and spending time in the water, Mr. Kelley is the flip-flop-wearing founder of DiveBar, a non-profit bar association of legal professionals who like to dive. The association currently boasts approximately 180 members, who meet throughout the year for day trips to dive destinations around Florida and occasionally trips overseas. DiveBar has had the opportunity to swim among 10-foot tiger sharks in the Bahamas and whale sharks and dolphins in Belize, among many other exciting experiences.

A few years ago, Dive Bar partnered with Nova Southeastern University’s oceanographic department to grow a new coral reef off the Fort Lauderdale coast. DiveBar has also partnered with Diveheart, an organization that teaches people with disabilities to dive.

DiveBar has been a valuable experience not just for Mr. Kelley and the organization’s members, but for others as well. He is grateful to be able to take his passion and use it to benefit other people and the environment at the same time.

For Mr. Kelley, swimming with sharks or exploring a reef provides a valuable way to live and be present “in the moment,” free from distractions. When asked about his practice and his hobby, he responds “they’re different, but they’re both exhilarating… wouldn’t trade them for the world.”
