The Rich Really Do Pay Lower Taxes

In the early 1900s, the United States had one of the most progressive tax codes in the world. The idea – the quintessentially American idea – was that the wealthiest Americans enjoyed the benefits of this great country, and so would contribute more to keeping the country safe, secure, and full of opportunity. But something changed; now, “the wealthiest 400 Americans pay a lower rate than the middle class.” How did we let this happen?
