Kelley | Uustal Wins Case Against Singer Island Treatment Center

Kelley/Uustal Attorney Peter K. Spillis was recently successful in helping secure a substantial wrongful death settlement for the family of a Virginia man who passed away while at a Singer Island treatment center. The treatment center agreed to pay $1 million to the family – the limits of its insurance policy – before trial.

According to the lawsuit, the 49-year old father of two drowned in November 2011 during a facility-run trip to the beach. It was later discovered that the man drowned while under the influence of medications he received from the treatment facility to help him cope with alcohol withdrawal, and that medical records showing he did not take the medication may have been created after he disappeared.

The settlement, while a result of tragic circumstances, will provide much-needed support to the man’s family.
