A high-stakes race in the Broward Circuit Court pits a well-known dealership against a customer who is relying upon a rarely cited Florida law in alleging inflated labor costs in car service.
Kelley | Uustal’s Cristina Pierson, who represents the class leader, said if she prevailed in this case under the Florida Motor Vehicle Repair Act, it could become a blueprint for legal action in the sunshine state.
“This is a prevalent practice where these dealerships are not disclosing to the customer in the labor context how they are coming up with their pay estimate,” Pierson said. “We’ve heard from the defense that this is industry practice. Well, you know what? It is time for the industry to change because if this is what everyone is doing, then it’s wrong.”
